EMG options: ZAR and HUF have really had a hard time the last few days, and the options market is doing nothing but going with the trend: both atm and RR are bid this morning, and its hard to find any sellers of anything. So pls be really carefull out there.

The FX market has well and truly ground to a halt if we’re honest. So far it has taken some pairs (including the EURUSD, Cable, AUDUSD etc) nearly 2 days to carve out a meagre 30/40 point range and even that is perhaps being a little too generous.

This morning gold had a huge sell-off. It was over 1% in just a couple of minutes. That is not a good sign for financial markets. Something is up. These were the things that passed though my mind when it occurred.

People are seriously worried about the fiscal cliff and going into cash
People are taking gains on the little up move in gold since November
Some Hedge Fund or large holder of Gold has a margin call and is liquidating their positions in the metal
