The Matrix: Reflections of a strategist

Global Macro Strategist [Asia based] / Saxo Bank

KVP, Saxo's man in Singapore, talks us through today's crucial NFP data and its implications and discusses what low yields mean for the global economy. Finally, he delivers a well-deserved broadside at the irresponsibility of those who think themselves fit to be our leaders.

Russia and Ukraine inch towards Minsk-2 implementation
A high-profile prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine could be a sign of political progress on the road to iimplementing the Minsk-2 agreement to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Russia might be aiming at removal of sanctions by year-end, but its means of getting there are still in doubt.

'Central banks can do nothing': Jakobsen
Just over a year ago, Saxo Bank chief economist Steen Jakobsen said that a "new nothingness" of zero-bound rates and policies was keeping the world in a state of torpor. This year, we have seen all manner of anti-establishment political movements, but central banks remain on course. Where do we go from here?

Hi Serge, how would you set up the trade with options?, I think a long put probably or a spread?

Yes you would likely want to buy a put spread with implied volatility still very low in relative terms. Look out to July paper

Possible cup and saucer pattern appearing here on Lonmin equities.
My average b/e is substantially lower due to the fun earlier this year with their share funding etc.
However what really concerns me is the weekly and monthly ADX + DMI. The weekly last gave a signal to short around £30 and is now about to give a buy signal at current levels. We need a bullish crossover with a spread between the two dmi's equal to the time frame. In otherwords we need a spread of 11 between dmi+ and dmi- on an end of week basis. So far it isn't there but certainly IMHO worth watching. For really long term players I suggest the monthly charts on a 7 setting !!
