Trade View: Building up gold shorts vs the USD, into the Fed hike

Global Macro Strategist / Saxo Bank Group - Singapore Hub
    Singapore
Building up short golds vs. the USD, into the Fed hike. In a trade that worked well for the MM book into the March Fed hike, we are looking to replicate what seems to be a high probability pattern in this hiking cycle so far, i.e. the under-performance of previous metals into Fed meetings where there are hikes.

USDCAD - Sentiment positive after average break
Our first downside target was met yesterday But that downside stalled at similar levels to the last 2 weeks and, once again, buyers took USDCAD back to the 13 day mvg avg. This continues a lack of follow through in either direction that has been the mark of the last 4 weeks trading. Naturally this does not create strong signals for sentiment going into Wednesday but with Asia attracting buyers our signals are positive despite the concerns of the proximity of Monday’s Marabuzo line.
So we look to Buy at 1.2850 and any 1.2817 dip.
    The risk is 1.2787 offered.
Upside targets of 1.2867, 1.2891 or even 1.2925

Gold remains on the defensive as it continues to test its 200-day moving average, currently at $1305/oz. Weakness driven by a combination of dollar strength and worries that the FOMC may signal a June 13 rate hike. Some physical (Chinese) buying has been reported on the approach to $1300 but for now the direction of the dollar remains the main driver

Sorry about that, Alan. It was indeed a technical glitch of sorts -- Friday was a bank holiday here in Denmark. Your update is now published.

Despite consolidation, USDCAD sentiment is bullish

    Partner at 3 C ANALYSIS / 3cAnalysis

A sequence of four up days ended yesterday. New three-week highs were posted in Asia but the latter part of the day saw USDCAD consolidate in a narrow range at overbought extremes. The net result was only minor movement and this price action does not create strong signals for sentiment going into Wednesday.
