  • Nicki Sørensen's record-breaking streak continues
  • Rider Chris Anker Sørensen follows suit and takes third place
  • Matti Breschel suffers broken nose in Gant-Wevelgem crash

Having previously enjoyed a very decent return from his one-stock portfolio, Nicki Sørensen breaks upwards to new highs on positive investor sentiment for Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. Nicki is now up an impressive 33.23% with almost 10 % down to runner up Tristan Hoffman who lands in 2nd place with 24.94%

News of the company's re-submission of its insulin Tresiba for approval by the US Food and Drugs administration sent the stock prices soaring benefitting not only Nicki Sørensen but also rider Chris Anker Sørensen who has also included a position in Novo Nordisk in his portfolio of four stocks.

Peter Sagan 10th in crash-filled Gant-Wevelgem

Gent-Wevelgem evolved into a crash-marred affair with most of the team riders hitting the deck in the 80km/h crosswinds that created havoc on the 239km road to Wevelgem. In the end, Peter Sagan finished 10th in the main chasing group behind winner Luca Paolini, after having been isolated due to the numerous crashes. Only 39 riders completed the race.

“This year’s edition was unique and very hard for the riders and it was very dramatic for Tinkoff-Saxo, as we had so many riders crashing. It happened after 70km, where the riders turned left, and some places they hit 80km/h winds, which simply sent the riders flying. Trusov had to pick his bike up from a small river or watery ditch and Bodnar also crashed around this part. Then Matti broke his nose in a fall and Sagan also hit the deck”, says Lars Michaelsen, who adds that Breschel managed to get back to support Peter Sagan

In a comment to the dramatic crash, Matti Breschel said: "Gent-Wevelgem was epic, crazy and exciting! The doctor confirmed that I have a broken nose and a small concussion. I should be alright for Tour of Flanders”.

Strong performance from Manuele Boaro in Criterium International

Tinkoff-Saxo’s Manuele Boaro delivered a strong performance on the final day of Criterium Internationale finishing 10th atop the 14km climb to Col de l’Ospedale. The speedy Italian concludes the race as 10th in the overall GC. Confirmation of  strong condition, says team DS Sean Yates.

Team Captain Contador has eyes fixed on the Giro

With the conclusion of Volta a Catalunya, Tinkoff-Saxo can look back on a week of challenging racing with sickness and a hard crash, which ultimately ended with a 4th place overall for Alberto Contador. The team captain now focuses on recovering from his crash and continuing his preparations ahead of the big goal of Giro d’Italia.

“This was the toughest stage of the Volta a Catalunya because of the injuries I sustained in yesterday’s crash. The only injury that worries me a little bit right now is in my back. I think that when I crashed yesterday a nerve must have been affected. I felt a sensation of intense heat in my back and I noticed it a bit today going over speed bumps”, says Alberto Contador, who remains confident in his preparations ahead of Giro d’Italia.

Next up: Ronde Van Vlaandern

With a few days of well-earned rest, the will team once more take to the road on April 5 - this time in the Belgian classic Ronde van Vlaanderen which is one of the most prominent races of the season. It’s a part of the “Five Monuments” together with Milano-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Giro di Lombardia and therefore one of the most prestigious races to add to any rider’s list of results.

Wishing for speedy recoveries and good legs in the days to come.
