Up until today, our sponsorship of the Tinkoff-Saxo professional cycling team has been based on bringing the financial environment to the world of cycling.

Now we are reversing that with the launch of Trade Like A Pro, a competition here on, between riders, managers and sports directors from the Tinkoff-Saxo team in an effort to raise money for charity.
Kim Fournais, my business partner, is developing into a great cyclist and is very much involved in the Ride Like A Pro initiative which has been launched for clients of Saxo Bank to enable them to live and train like a Tinkoff-Saxo cycling professional. Kim will lead the Danish team just as Matteo Cassina, our Head of Sales and all business lines, will lead the UK leg of this initiative.
I must admit, I’m much better at enjoying the races with our clients and business partners and if I ever ride a bike its downhill rather than uphill.
Building on the deep relationship we have formed with the team, we believe that now is the time to develop an even closer partnership between Saxo Bank and the Tinkoff-Saxo team.

We have therefore not only launched Ride Like A Pro, but also Trade Like A Pro, the latter being an effort to imbue the world of trading with the competitive spirit of cycling.

Trade Like a Pro involves Saxo Bank equipping each of the 46 riders, managers and sports directors from the Tinkoff-Saxo team with EUR 1,500 and enabling them to trade equities using the Saxo Mobile Trader app.
The competition runs until the end of the Giro D’Italia on May 31 when the team’s total account balance, including any trading proceeds, will be donated to the participants' charity of choice.
Historically, sponsors have gained great exposure through cycling but leveraging that exposure to actually position the business behind the brand has always been difficult.

Mapei, Quick-Step, ONCE, BMC etc. are all well-known names due to their involvement in cycling, yet who would know that they are in the business of chemicals, flooring, lottery for blind people, and bike manufacturing respectively?
It is one of the distinct features of cycling that the team takes over the name of its sponsor, but to also have the team engaged at the core of the sponsor’s business is truly unique. I cannot think of a better way for the team to get to know Saxo Bank’s core business and products than by actively trading with a profile on through the Saxo Mobile Trader app.
Hopefully, the Trade Like A Pro competition will highlight that sponsoring Bjarne Riis and his Tinkoff-Saxo riders not only makes for very good business sense but also why it is that trading the financial markets via Saxo Bank’s new multi-asset social trading platform can be as intense as an energy sapping hill climb or a sprint finish during the Spring Classics.

These guys are highly competitive by nature. They want to deliver the best possible returns.
The Trade Like a Pro battle will be carried out with full transparency on As result, everyone will be able to follow the competition as it unfolds, seeing what trades the team makes, interacting with them, discussing their trading ideas, and even copying their trading strategies.
The sponsorship of Tinkoff-Saxo has supported the growth of Saxo Bank's brand and the development of our business globally. It has brought our name to markets that had never before heard of Saxo Bank, while in our home markets it has made us a household name.

Now it is time to see the Saxo-Tinkoff riders compete in the financial markets, in what is for them unknown terrain.

Over the ensuing weeks I will watch closely to see how the likes of Alberto Contador, Peter Sagan, Bjarne Riis and Matti Breschel perform during the competition. I welcome you to join me.
