The US housing boom continues as KB Home reported forecast-beating third-quarter results yesterday and kept a positive outlook. US building permits are still rising and have around 20% more upside from current levels as family formation increases and permits swing back to the long-term average from 1960. Among North America home builders, we believe DR Horton is the most undervalued, with around 28% upside over the next 12 months.

Earnings Watch: Strong USD still bothering US companies – #SaxoStrats
The stronger US dollar is a persistent drag on sales growth for US companies. Sports apparel group Nike reports second-quarter earnings on Tuesday with analysts expecting EPS down 4% from the same period last year but revenue growing by 5%. However, such growth rates are significantly lower than just a few years ago due to the stronger USD, a theme that will continue to plague US companies in the upcoming fourth-quarter earnings season.

Earnings Watch: Consumer sector revenue grows briskly in Q3
Already a quarter of the companies in the S&P 1200 Global Index have reported third-quarter results. Energy and materials sector companies have taken a huge hit to revenue and profits from lower commodity prices. Benefiting from decade-low energy prices is the consumer discretionary sector, showing the highest growth rates among all sectors.

Earnings Watch: So far, so good
With 34 companies in the S&P 1200 Global Index having reported Q3 earnings, we have enough data to make some preliminary conclusions. So far, results look robust but the majority of the companies that have reported are consumer companies and thus figures could change a lot when energy and materials companies report earnings.

Market Open: Negative sentiment prevails amid oil concerns
European markets are expected to open lower Wednesday as oil prices continue to decline after an oil minister from the OPEC indicated yesterday that it would stick to its decision to keep oil output unchanged. Adding to the negative sentiment, the World Bank cut its global growth forecasts for 2015 and 2016. Later today, traders will keep a tab on Eurozone industrial production as well as French and Italian consumer price inflation data for further direction. Market participants will also keep a close eye on the US Federal Reserve's Beige Book business survey along with US retail sales data.
