    Ctrip deal upgrades Baidu to first class

    Baidu and Ctrip announced a share exchange involving travel site Qunar, which will see Ctrip take a 45% stake in Qunar and Baidu take a 25% in Ctrip. This is a major move because Ctrip is a big independent service provider in China, unattached to any of the trio of tech giants. Baidu will now be able to offer the best travel services in China, and Alibaba and Tencent won’t be able to compete.
