Stroke

A personal cause for Alberto Contador

In 2004 while competing in the tour of Asturias, Alberto Contador suffered a hemorrhagic stroke from which he has since fully recovered.

Since the incident, it has become a personal motivation for promote awareness of the disease.

A stroke is when poor blood flow to the brain results in cell death with a potentially fatal or invalidating out-come. The key contributing factors to strokes are high blood pressure and unhealthy life-style.

It is estimated that worldwide, every five seconds, a person suffers from a stroke. The World Health Organization predicts a 27% rise in stroke incidents by year 2025, increasing the need to raise awareness of the disease.

The Alberto Contador Foundation aims to promote awareness of the disease as well as to promote health and well-being with cycling as a preventive measure.
