Gold is a precious metal which is a store of value - used as a unit of exchange and in jewellery. It is held by central banks as reserves and is seen as a safe-haven investment. Its symbol is Au. Gold does not corrode or oxidise and is a good heat and electricity conductor. China, South Africa, Australia
and the US account for approximately 40 percent of the world’s annual gold mine production.
