Platinum raced higher yesterday and has continued this AM as the Lonmin mining crisis in South Africa intensified. More than 30 striking workers were killed by police as what began as fight between workers spread. Lonmin, the world's third largest platinum miner has shut down all production in the region and the impact on the price is now being felt. Platinum climbed to the highest level in a month and has outperformed gold by more than four percent since Monday.
