Energy: what a rollercoaster week this has been for crude oil and for most traders the weekend probably can't come fast enough. Before then we get the monthly serving of US employment data ahead of which activity is bound to be light. But clearly a week were the battle between weak fundamentals and geo-politics once again resulted in volatility and uncertainty about the nearterm direction. While the price of Brent is almost unchanged from Monday to this morning we managed to travel almost ten dollars in meantime. Yesterdays sharp reversal to the upside was triggered by the tension between Turkey and Syria which add to the ongoing worries in the region. Adding to this we had the ECB saying it was ready to implement its bond buying programme which returned the focus to quantitative easing. Finally gasoline prices in the US raced ahead again yesterday with the spread to crude (called crack spread) rising to the highest level since 1986.
